Duke of York Visit to AlphaThe Duke of York visited Lucite International’s new Alpha technology plant on Jurong Island in Singapore during a five-day tour of south-east Asia last week. The visit was part of his role as the UK’s Special Representative for International Trade and Development. During his time on site, he unveiled a plaque commemorating his visit and was given a guided tour by Lucite International executives.

Senior Project Manager, Geoff Muir, informed the Duke of the significant progress during construction, commenting: “All of the major equipment has now been lifted into place and this week we passed the impressive safety milestone of 1,000,000 (one million) man hours of construction without any injury.”

Lucite International’s first Alpha technology plant is expected to be completed ready for the commissioning phase in Q2 2008. It will produce methyl methacrylate (MMA) using ethylene as a starting material and, with a capacity of 120kte per annum, is the first in a series of state-of-the-art Alpha-based production facilities being built by the Company globally.

During the site tour, the Duke of York also discussed the benefits of the new Alpha technology with the General Manager of Lucite International Singapore, Nick Cordingley, who said “The team were delighted to welcome His Royal Highness to see first hand the progress we are making here in Singapore and share with him the benefits of our exciting new technology for manufacturing MMA.”
