Perspex® from Lucite® Lenticular is chosen by Magners for its latest 3D advertising campaign

27 Mar 2007 Southampton, UK

Lenticular mainLeading Irish cider brand, Magners, is set to break new ground in outdoor advertising with the launch of a new medium in the form of Solidvision 3D posters, featuring Perspex Lenticular acrylic sheet from Lucite International (LI). The Magners campaign is appearing in Clear Channel sites across central London during March 2007.

Created by SMP Group PLC, one of the largest producers of outdoor advertising material, the Solidvision 3D posters are made using Perspex Lenticular acrylic sheet combined with patented software and advanced lens technology to create a 3D effect. Achieving the illusionary effect of being able to quite literally pick up a glass of Magners out of the poster has taken five years’ of collaboration and development work. The 3D effect and the potential to animate using image/text flips and morphs allow potential advertisers to create dynamic messages with an instant wow factor.

Lucite International (LI), producers of the specialist acrylic sheet has worked alongside Dr Graham Street, MD of Solidvision on the project, which uses a sophisticated computer software programme to refract each ‘slice’ of the digital image through the lenses in the Perspex Lenticular sheet to give a 3D effect.

“There are already 3D and lenticular products on the market but Solidvision surpasses all of these and the finished image is a closer representation of a hologram than it is to any of it’s 3D lenticular competition” commented SMP Group’s Nick Stagg. “Our research has shown that 3D lenticular is five times more likely to get people to stop and read a poster and four times more likely to make people remember what they saw.”

The campaign which launches in 50 bus shelter sites across London will feature Magners spring campaign with three other seasonal Solidvsion 3D poster campaigns set to run for summer, autumn and winter.

Note to editors:

Further explanation of how the 3D effect is achieved:The vertical lines within the Perspex acrylic sheet act as the lenticular lens and, when combined with a specially printed graphic, a 3D effect can be achieved. Solidvision’s unique input to this process has been the development of patented software that ensures that each image is registered exactly to each lenticular sheet. This registration process corrects any distortions in the vertical lenticular lenses with the benefit that the final image is allegedly superior to those produced by other products in the marketplace.
