Charterhouse Development Capital (CDC)
Charterhouse Development Capital is the UK’s longest established
private equity firm and has been an active investor in Continental
Europe for approximately 30 years.
- Since 1982, Charterhouse Development Capital has raised
seven funds totalling approximately €3.5 billion for
investment in the UK and Europe. During this period, Charterhouse
has invested in over 110 businesses in seven European countries
with a total value of over €18 billion.
- The CDC team is lead by Gordon Bonnyman and the longest
serving director, Geoff Arbuthnott, is currently the Chairman
of Lucite International.
- CDC formed their seventh fund which has just over €2.7billion
of commitments. Its first investment is the UK bookmaker,
Corals which it bought in October 2002.
- CDC’s investment philosophy is to support their
investments with funds to expand. Examples of this include
Tussauds which has bought a German theme park and opened
wax works in New York and Las Vegas, TDF (which it bought
in 2002 for just under €2billion) buying overseas “towers” businesses
and rolling out 3G in France, Corals buying smaller bookmakers
in the UK and finally and most importantly, CDC supporting
a new plant in China and the continued development and roll
out of Lucite International's new MMA technology – Alpha.
