MMA is the essential building block for acrylic-based products. It polymerises easily to form resins and polymers with excellent performance characteristics. These include excellent durability, strength, transparency and UV and abrasion resistance. It can be co-polymerised with other monomers to form a broader range of products typically used for coatings and adhesives. It is also polymerised into a solid form for use in items such as signage, POS display, baths, spas, work surfaces, automotive lights and trim as well as dental prostheses, medical diagnostics equipment, flat screen monitors, lighting and more. The unique and cost effective recycling capability of methacrylates enables us to provide an environmentally attractive proposition. We also manufacture a variety of other functional speciality monomers, such as Methacrylic Acid (MAA) and n-Butyl Methacrylate (nBMA)
MAA is formed via the acetone cyanohydrin (ACH) route to manufacturing MMA and is used in many applications, which include the production of speciality methacrylates for automotive coatings, in cement modifiers, NBR latex for disposable synthetic rubber gloves and in vinyl ester resins. MAA contributes a number of additional beneficial properties including surface adhesion, toughness and chemical resistance.
nBMA is formed from the esterification of MMA and is used in exterior decorative paints, automotive, wood finishes and textiles where it provides durability, UV and moisture resistance as well as improved solvent solubility to the resin.
