Methacrylate Monomers: Case Studies – Underwater Dining Experience

Underwater dining experience

‘Sea’, at the Anantara Kihavah Villas in the Maldives was inspired by its breathtaking views of the natural coral reef, which are made possible by R-Cast® acrylic windows designed and manufactured by our customer, Reynolds Polymer Technology (RPT) Asia, Ltd using monomers from our parent company, Mitsubishi Rayon Co., Ltd (MRC). As part of the commission, RPT created eight windows for the octagonal underwater restaurant and for the world’s first underwater wine cellar, which look out into the beautiful lagoon at the bottom of the Indian Ocean. The structure is truly unique and maximises the views of the coral reef while withstanding the influences of weather and marine life – a real testament to RPT’s solid engineering work and the high performing qualities of the acrylic monomers. Optimum optical clarity, strength and exceptional weatherability of the acrylic building blocks coupled with RPT’s design, manufacturing and engineering expertise that go into the R-Cast® acrylic windows make for a crystal clear view of the exotic marine life immediately outside. ‘Sea’ must be the ultimate in luxury dining.
